The wife has been thinking about getting a 3rd vehicle back again, so I’ve been keeping an eye for something interesting.
Narrowed down to a few we may go check out this weekend.
I really like this Park Ave:

The Regal GS looks very well cared:

buy the Alfa!!!!!!!
buy the Alfa!!!!!!!!
or the Pontiac!
![]() 11/23/2018 at 07:51 |

A non-running Alfa does sound like a great idea...
That 6000LE though!

I’ll do you a favour and strike out the Alfa and the Jeep. The Roadmaster is endearingly stupid, the 50 year old Buick ’s would be like buying two of me and giving both to your missus (so therefore not very nice) and the rest of the bloated rounded sedans are just fat, r ott en burgers...but Grandad’s Pontiac says something to me... something desperate and stupid but still, it's something!
![]() 11/23/2018 at 08:12 |
|
Maybe I’m just getting old, but something about having a smooth/comfortable cruiser sounds very appealing lately. Hence all the large sedans.
I also have a history with GM wagons of the era.
I do have a soft spot for the 6000LE though. Dad had an identical one when I was growing up. We beat that car to hell and back and it always came back for more. IIRC it had 300+k miles on it when the rear frame finally rotted enough that it went to the scrapper.

I’ve been eyeballing that Roadmaster as well. Unf ortunately, being a '92 it won't have the more powerful LT-1. I'm curious how solid the B-pillars are though.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 09:57 |
|
Seems like a great price for what looks to be a pretty decent car. Other than some dents, it looks pretty rust-free.
LT-1 or not, it’s still a 350, so more power can easily be opened up with some minor mods, not that I’m looking for a power house.

My completely unsolicited top 5 ranking.
Roadmaster wagon; it’s a Roadmaster wagon for cheap!
Supercharged Bonneville; my brother had one of this generation and it was really nice
Pontiac 6000; stupid low miles without the typical “ran when parked” caveat
Park Avenue; I can’t specify which because the price and miles are close enough to need a visit to decide between them
Buick GS’s; for that price they’re a great deal if not terribly rusty.
The lesabre could make the list if it had some more details.
I’d love to suggest the Alfa, but the admission that they’ve been trying to work on it but can’t get it running is concerning. Unless you have a history and knowledge with that model I’d stay away.

I’m kinda torn between the SC Bonni e and that 6000LE.
I love the Bonnevilles, always have, but that 6000LE has major nostalgia factor for me.

Yep, agreed on all counts. I’ve been forbidden by the boss to buy anything until after the holidays, so we’ll see if it’s still available then. I’m guessing it won’t be.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 10:52 |

With the van you’ve already got all the advantages of a wagon covered so it’s probably not as exciting to you.
I still really like the look of the supercharged Bonneville of that era . I can’t even remember the last time I saw one though.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 12:24 |

I see this era and earlier GMs all over up here.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 12:27 |

Depends if my boss goes for it or not.......
I would love another one of these wagons, used to have a 92 Custom Cruiser until my friend let his daughter use it for a while when it was at his place (Long story). She ended up not checking the oil and blowing the motor. He bought it off me for what I paid for it with plans of putting another engine in it. That was 5+ yrs ago and it’s now sitting in his backyard slowly dying.
![]() 11/23/2018 at 13:15 |

Yeah, no worries. I’m not trying to call dibs on it :)
I think we've talked about the Custom Cruiser before. That's too bad.

I’ve thought about grabbing it from him and putting the motor he has on the stand in his garage in it, but at this point it likely needs more work than it’s worth.
Really sucks because it was an immaculate car inside and out.

We had a 6000 wagon with the facelifted front lights when I was a kid!
![]() 11/23/2018 at 17:17 |

We had a 6000LE exactly like this one when I was younger. Dad and I beat that car to hell and back for 300k+ miles until the rear frame rotted enough to take it off the road.
Nothing like throwing a wallowy car into a 90 at 65 mph and listening to the tires scream for dear life and having enough body roll to break the inside tire loose coming out of the corner....
![]() 11/23/2018 at 17:20 |

My list usually consists of a bunch of basket case 90s Mopars and some random 60s Buicks.
I’m actually being serious this time and looking for something I hopefully don’t have to do much to.

Park avenue all day, every day. Those cars are bomber and a very very cushy ride.

If the Port Holes are factory it may very well be a SC3800 as well. That would be amazing.
It’s only about an hour away, so I’ll show her tonight and see what she thinks.

I would actually seriously consider that. Not sure how much we want to spend, but that looks very nice!

I’ll be ok on this one, there’s no more 90s Mopars on the list ;)

My neighbors have some family in town with a circa 1990 SWB Caravan and I immediately thought of you.
I mean, I haven’t SEEN one on the road in 5+ years*, let alone one that clearly road-tripped here and is in 8/10 cosmetic shape.
*not counting ones owned by roofers that look like they’re held together by duct tape

That Alfa is priced waaay too high, I had one exactly like that for a little. B ought it non-running but in better shape and not sitting for nearly as long for $600, solid it for something like $1500 running and driving but still a project.
It was a fun experience but I wouldn’t recommend if you want it to be anything besides a toy, if only because parts are difficult so even easily fixable stuff will have it down for a week or two.

My wife’s uncle has a really nice supercharged park ave and he still drives it and keeps it mint. He drove it from NH to Atlanta and said he wouldn’t want any other car on a road trip. The car has FRONT BENCH SEATS!!!

Regal.
But you WILL need to change the supercharger oil and supercharger belt. SC oil is every 80-90k.
Also expect it to need another wheel bearing soon, but it’s not very expensive.

I keep suggesting a third to my gf. She just glares at me

My little Acclaim does too. People don’t realize how nice it is to be able to carry 6 passengers in a sedan these days.

Not an Acura guy in case you haven’t noticed.
Age doesn’t have as much to do on how a vehicle holds up as how it was taken care of. I’ve seen plenty of 5 yo vehicles rotted to hell, meanwhile I see plenty of clean 25 yo vehicles still being daily driven.
